I think that idea works. I'm not sure there should be multiple units for casters, but on the other hand just for the amount of tracking that would entail. On the flip side, it might be easier to do that, and apply the various racial modifiers than trying to track each specific unit differently for e...

I like that idea of forts being able to grant extra units for attrition purposes.
