That is easier, and puts the onus on tracking on the players, although I would suggest +2 EPL, like blood abilities and NWPs. I would advocate for Priests to have a +1 EPL as well to simulate their battle magic.

I vote for whatever is simplest for Juan to deal with battles. While hopefully this game won't have battles of the size as last, I suspect later in game there will be big battles. So the simpler the better.
