- [+] The Land
- The coastal province of Salviene consists of rugged hills gradually getting steeper as one travels from the shore to the foothills of the Iron Peaks. Iron is the lifeblood of the land, and its miners drink deeply.
- [+] The People
- Anuireans comprise the largest ethnic group in Salviene, though all are welcome.
- [+] The Economy
-
In the countryside, most folk work in the iron mines, a dark, damp, and thankless existence. Still, it is the preferred profession of the more honest and upright segment of the population.
In small villages along the coast and in the city, those who long to feel the sea-breeze on their skin make a little life on fishing.
In Salviene city, vice is the major employer. The lawmen who protect and serve (and work over) the outlying mining towns and fishing villages come to the city to spend their hard-earned coin. There is also a small but consistent stream of tourists who visit by boat from Coeranys, where joy is frowned upon and called sin.
- [+] Religion
- Temples in Salviene are split between The Fortress and Water's Blessing, neither commanding a majority.
- [+] Duke Cicero
-
Duke Cicero recently succeeded Duke Chandol as mayor of Salviene, though depending on who you ask he has had the power all along. Whereas Duke Chandol claimed to be a scion of some Anuirean Ducal family or other, The Duke is a nickname bestowed upon Cicero by his henchmen.
Cicero has been a part of Salviene for as long as any of its human residents can remember. Though his features barely reflect it, he is said to have some elven blood.
In person, Cicero is magnanimous and charming. Though he may lack a certain conventional aesthetic appeal, he makes up for it with an animal magnetism. Witty and wise, he knows just what to say in every occasion. He is an impeccable dresser, favoring darker colors over flamboyantly bright ones. He walks with a limp, leaning on his jeweled cane - a cut black opal is inset on top of it.
- [+] The Court
-
Duke Cicero reigns from the Old Dun Cow tavern in the province's namesake city, Salviene. It isn't the biggest court, but it may be the most fun! Wine, women, gambling - all this and more can be enjoyed on a diplomat's dime.
Duke Cicero is not known to have any living family.
Several capable lieutenants are known to serve the realm:
An unassuming Brecht man, Henrik was not particularly blessed by the gods, but he has fashioned himself into a warrior of no small skill to spite them. It is said he can shave your beard with an arrow from his longbow and not spill a drop of blood. If you're looking to spill some blood though, he's your man for that too. Need a beast or man hunted? Inquire within.
Orgatt the Great and Powerful is intentionally opaque about his origins - to cultivate his mystique - though his appearance suggests a Brecht heritage. Being a master of the Arcane Arts, he has nothing to prove and squabbling over the sources of the land is simply beneath him. Parlor tricks and snake oil, that's where the real money is. Leave the hustle and grind to the Hamam brothers and our benevolent leader the Chimaera. The only literate member of the court, he is fluent in Brecht, Anuirean, Khinasi, and Karamhul.
