A captain arrives with failed resolution. They are hostile to the province and current holding owners there.

They seek to expand their influence (ie they get more holdings) as they can.

I'd recommend against failing.
Yes, but it makes no sense that someone else can fail for you.

If you have a great captain, and I come there and fail it, it makes no sense for the great captain to pick up 2 of your holdings for it, if the duration havent passed yet.
If so it would haveto my holdings, but they are across the map....

I feel like negatively influencing random events may need to be revisited as well. Especially when it comes to great captains and the action economy they break by existing.

The Great Captain was modified last turn so it couldn't be auto-failed to prevent that.

There is something to say about the negative impactor still -- and this was called out last game as well. You can put 5 GBs against a Great Captain resolution and drive likely success down. This results in a 5GB investment and an NPC suddenly having at least one or more holdings (at level 1+). This is typically far better than the results of a contest.

It does need to change.

You should not be able to influence great captains negative. With adventures it is ok as you have to reach a DC and use an action to do it. With Great captain you can not fail if you want a negative effect to happen.

And there is little to no fallout on the individual trying to make it worse.

Cost an action and some gold I guess, but..

"making it worse" is great for regular adventures. but yeah, dont think its a good thing for non-adventure things. I dont(think?) its been abused alot so far but..

Actually 'Haelyn' I intentionally resolved.

I had at least one Great Captain event used against me to split holdings in Graven.

They were allowed to put GBs to negatively influence, I was only allowed the normal max -- which basically makes it a straight roll -- and for Great Captain a straight roll sucks.

I think there was another, but I don't recall all the details on it.

Masked Mage was heavily influenced, and became +4 actions basically.
