Yes, not everything on the list is an example of a battle with heavy casualties for the nobles (even for the subset in the medieval period), but enough of them are. For one set of examples, both sides of the war between England and Scotland faced it depending on how things went that day.

Dismissing disasters like these as 'outliers' makes it sounds like they're abnormal rather than routine (if not terribly frequent) occurrences.

Maybe some sort of saving throw with a base DC modified by level of leader and class. Wizards should get bonuses since they can fly away wraith form etc. Clerics of a rival faith of the enemy should get negatives and positives if same faith despite that not being the case in real life lol. Certain blood abilities could give bonuses. And depending how much you fail by you are captured or killed.

In 100 years war there were 2 of these. 100 years 2.

If we have them once per generation in game, that's both in line with my expectations and in line with that.

For something like 39 of those 100 years there was peace... Just ya know... For the record.

I mean there was probably war somewhere most of the time.

True, but 2 in 61 years doesn't change magnitudes or strength of the argument.

Still makes the events outliers.

Whatever it means to call it an 'outlier' when it's also a regular occurrence...

In the time scale of wars lasting 2-5 years it is rare. Once of every 40 years or so. An outlier at the time scales involved. In a 40 year game expected to happen 0-2 times. If it doesn't happen normal, if it happens 3+ times then something unique happened.

An outlier. Literally, events that outlie on a graph or better yet a boxplot made of notable personage's deaths in medieval war if I went and inputted the data of various wars into SAS.

An OUTLIER!!!!

Why do you argue semantics?

The context of the entire discussion is how the war adventure rules should be handled re: risk for the participants. If you read what I've been saying, it should be easy to see my position is that casualties should be reasonably common, as in, battles with multiple regent deaths should happen frequently enough to be a regular occurrence, something we see in the average game, perhaps even more than once.

What argument are you trying to make, aside from the semantic one? If it's the same one I'm making, then what the heck are you doing?
