Juan can go in another directions, but the conjured heroes would not be undead. They may detect as outsiders, or magical. 3.5 introduced the idea of native outsiders which would be how I envisioned them, summoned from the planes to this prime.

They'd logically take the form of petitioners, assuming those are a thing in this cosmology.

(Modified petitioners, I guess, since petitioners per se are incapable of planar travel.)

Haha, that was Daene's project? Namel just had 'Masetians' straight from the Isle of the Serpent, and she and her heir were going to build a city for them if Daene didn't keep getting in the way. But then, Namel's wasn't interesting in a breeding project, hers was more of a conservation effort. And her heir was a Khinasi nationalist who believed in taking the best traits of the Masetians and Basarji to create a better culture than either.
Juan had indicated all Masetians were extinct.

Namel's people were not Masetian genetically, Daene had investigated and Juan confirmed they were not actual 'Masetians.'

Ha, did he investigate all of them? Less than 1-in-20 of the population of the Isle of the Serpent were 'pure-blooded Masetians' even by their own accounting. While those were overrepresented in the group that came from there (being privileged people and all) they still made up a minority of the 'Khinasi' population, which included people from Suiriene and other lands.

(Khinasi in general are descended from a Masetian/Basarji mix, since the Basarji enslaved and destroyed the culture of the Masetians, but they didn't exterminate them.)

You can fluff write whatever you want, the DM said extinct.

Just like the Rjurik are extinct now as well.

Since I've never actually worked for TSR it wasn't me who wrote about the Masetians, Basarji, and the Isle of the Serpent in the first place. Mechnically, the Khinasi are one of the only five groups of humans that exist for game purposes. (Four, now that the Rjurik are removed from play.) Canonically, the Khinasi are descendants of Basarji and Masetians... while the Anuireans are the descendants of almost everything, to the point where original Andu stock is rare for them. Human subgroups are not species.

It doesn't matter what TSR wrote, Juan (the DM, i.e. the determining force for the game world we are playing in) indicated the Masetians were completely extinct, regardless of whatever fluff you wished to write.

It's really that simple :)

Human subgroups aren't species, so that doesn't mean what you think it means.

If you're going to appeal to the DM's authority to try to press your interpretations, maybe don't negate all the nuance and ambiguity he incorporates into his campaigns while you're doing it?

They have genetic traits based on their race. Some races are inherently stronger, others hardier, some wiser, some more intelligent.

Masetians as a race were extinct per Juan. It's that simple :)

The Khinasi have different traits than the Basarji AND the Masetians had. They're distinct, and descended from both. Neither the Masetians nor the Basarji ever had stats written up for them, so far as I know.

Masetians are extinct as a culture with only vestigial remains; hat was true in the original setting. Calling them 'extinct as a race' doesn't even make sense.
