Maybe the disease never spread to them. Dragonfire is a highly effective quarantine measure.

The Life/Unlife Dragon itself, that survived the death of the Life/Unlife entities may also have been able to create a bubble of sorts that protected it's island chain against the life-force loss.

Individually they seem okay, the closest analog to where half-elves live in large numbers is with the genasi of The Caldera.

Half-elves already have severe enough difficulties with fertility and childbirth they can't survive as a species, so I imagine it wasn't much of a novel horror for them.
