Fortify

Post by TH - The Hunt » Sun Jul 19, 2020 10:05 pm

(Came up in the questions thread, better to discuss it here.)

I think we should go back to Fortify being a domain action. Birmail can't understand it being a free/build action, it adds the GB to construct it twice and builds it in half the time. If it's a domain action, then NWPs can be applied to it, including Siegecraft to double the number of fortification levels gained from one build. It'll take longer and come at an action cost, so the map won't get as cluttered with fortifications, and they'll matter more strategically. The siegecraft NWP, and NWPs to reduce fortification construction costs, would become more common on PCs and lieutenants respectively.

Is there a downside?

A downside to making Fortification a domain action, instead of Free Action? Not really.

Amy Mason's last 4 rules suggestions? Nerf Banon God. Nerf Elves with temples. Nerf Elves with Ships. Nerf Fortification.

Im sensing a pattern.

Id like to suggest nerfs to dwarves with magic, ill come up with 2 more as she develops the theme of her realm.

I'd say most rule changes post-domain build carry a downside just by virtue of timing.

Other than that, though, I don't see why building fortifications should take a domain action more so than any other build type.

I do think dwarves with magic is odd ... but about equally as odd as elves with temples, so ... *shrug*

Based on player selection the most powerful faiths seem to be Moradin and Mats.

I avoid OP things, so that is selection bias.

But, I've been saying dwarves shouldn't have wizards, or ships either. I think there's a pattern you didn't sense.

TBH, I would be ok with all build actions taking a domain action. It costs actions to raise armies. Why not an action to build navies or infrastructure?

In general, I am for rules that slow down development and stretch out the early game.
