So.. Hidden holdings give 2x XP when ruled.
And it appears a failed attempt gives some XP as well.

All sources count as hidden holdings, correct?

So manually need to reduce XP for source creation/rule each turn.

Wizards need to put in their XP adjustment into turn forum.

I guess that should not give extra xp as the DC is not more diffiucult than normal holding ruling :)

Good you found the reason for the questions that have been discussed the last days. Still possible to be lvl 10-11 in turn 4 but probably 50K less XP which is a level less than it is according to birmail.

One issue would be assisination attempts where the caster is casting death spells where you with lower lvls dont even have a save.

Just spend 100 resources on counter espionage, and the level 12 mage who fails by enough still dies... ;)

11d6 lightning bolt still nukes most non-fighters.

Death spell isn't really a big deal with all of the other options as well.

Key is to not piss off spell-casters you know are high-level.

Less than 25k difference. If he wasn't fully 12th in Turn 3, he's nailed it by end of Turn 4 :P

That is why Source focused people always seemed to level so quickly in the past?

Yes birmail gives secret holding bonus to all sources beeing ruled and failed attempts give xp. As sources can be ruled higher than holdings normaly wizards have more xp potential there.
