Huh, sounds like you and John really need to vary your routine, then. Maybe you should try getting slapped down more often.

I agree requiring Permanency per level of the building/fortification is a good balance.

What wizard is gonna burn 10 Con? Or even 1 or 2 con on a building that you could just build in not much more time with GB? Creating a level 10 fortress or palace or whatever or even a level 5 and lose 5 to 10 con....lol cmon.

Can I have back the time I spent making a level 7 Source and researching what is now a "never gonna cast it" spell?

I had a thought earlier that the Stronghold could be linked it to the caster, so if the building is damaged, the caster takes ability damage, one point for every level. That would indirectly limit the use of the spell in that the caster would want to be cautious about using it when they can't (or don't need to) maintain the advantage.

Losing a point of constitution permanently is pretty serious... though, so is a level 10 fortification. I can't imagine a point of con would be worth losing just to save a dozen GB or less, on the other hand.

I have to agree with Pyro on the Permanency issue. What sane Wizard pr player would spend 5 Con on a level 5 building....

Even for 1 Con I would have to think hard.

Not to mention that by the time they are high enough level to cast permanency in the game the effect of a level 10 fortress or level 5 building will be even less and others will probably have built (if they had the desire) a level 5 building already somewhere.
