Espionage Province has a DC. A party can bid counter-espionage against you finding things out (be it hidden holdings, or spy rings). I cannot very well tell you your Espionage failed, because then it meta-game becomes too obvious that there is something to be looking for.

So I put in the counter espionage bids secretly (debit the counter-espionage pool), and see if you beat the true DC. If you don't, but beat the generic DC - I tell you you succeed, but find nothing.

If you succeed by enough, I also give you the option of not destroying their spy ring, but maybe start trying to infiltrate it with your own spies, or feed it false information (as much as that can be done without it being obvious OOC).

The rule only said that Guild and Law holders can bid.

It would be good to mention that success can be modified by counter-espionage pools of hidden asset holders.

That would be a devil, demons are bad.

All Espionage can be bid against by the target of the espionage. ie, spy rings, spies, smuggler trade routes, hidden holdings. All can bid their counter-espionage against being discovered.

added to the topline of espionage, to be more clear.

Did anyone have a spy ring in Crainn Àille other than me?
