Also the players who "exploited" the ability not to build units or castles to "exploit" building realms instead were bested by the "exploit" of blitzkrieg.
+1

I think it'd make more sense to be stricter about the limits on holdings in elven realms, so the units aren't more expensive... the realms just have fewer resources.

Why? They have fewer resources if they choose to build only with wood (less guilds), or preserve their sources (less temples).

Just because they are being used effectively is not a reason to down-strength them.

As was previously indicated, this is more some went to try and spam wide growth and are paying a penalty for that since they are too spread out for the provinces and area they control.

I still think it's weird for elven realms to have roads and build ships, regardless of their guild levels.

Makes more sense when their neighbours build the roads and the ships to trade with the elves, I guess.

No. There are no other sets if actions we could have taken. We lost the moment we picked a class and race combo that was not optimized. If anyone thinks a castle or additional action or two of training will do anything they are wrong.

1 person - no matter how optimized cannot beat 10 people. Ever. Actions are worth more than any amount of efficiency.

All of the elven realms in LotR had roads and ships...and the Birthright realms all had roads. Elf doesn't mean I don't build roads or ships.

I think it was more that the first ones he encountered put up 0 resistance. And the next 4 as well. And with little warning we were still able to fend of his first assault. But we are getting into a point of spreading too much knowledge.

Hmm, I thought the only road in Tuarheivel was the one connecting the capital to Dhoesone. As far as I can tell, Rhoube (of course) and the Sielwode didn't have roads. Innishiere not only doesn't appear to have roads, but the human provinces adjacent to it have no roads either. Not sure what maps you were thinking of.

All of the large scale maps tend to not show province level roads.

Rhuobe's realm is a single-province and while it has no roads connecting it to other realms now (intentional to mitigate efforts to get at him), it has internal roads and paths for defensive movements.

Neither Innishiere nor Sielwode had any sort of sourcebook done on them, but lack of roads on the big map doesn't mean there are not roads within them.

The same goes for the under provinces (Warlock of the Stonecrowns and most any adventure published for Birthright during the initial run, to include Legends of the Hero King's).

Additionally, even the Cold Realm had roads, albeit this was more a matter of the Seeming.
