Re: Future game set-up concepts
I like the isles fast-forwarded a generation. The map has a natural history to it. 7 cities by comparison seems very artificial by comparison. It is like it's a board game set-up for the purpose of a competition.

Better view of the map, you can mostly ignore what it says for holdings, rulers, power ranks etc.

Yes, the backstory to the 7 cities is literally that it is set up as a testing ground/game by the Empire.

Looks like you have put a lot of effort into both. They both look entertaining, which one is easier for you? DM preference?

Either way works. Organically following the game by jumping forward 30-50 years is probably a better game.
I would really encourage everyone to jump around who they are playing, with the old player of any continuation domain setting out what their domain objectives were/would be.

Do you want to assign new realms to people, or set up a draft?

I haven't yet finished fixing holdings and trade routes (first priority). I expect I will ask people to give their top 3 preferred choices, and then reassign from there.
Ideally people will pick things unrelated to who/where they were before.

And of course, I will need to write up the background on what happened, and what some of the particulars are of the setting, for people to make decisions.

That makes sense, once we know what the epilogue is we can write letters to our future selves!
