Archers have 2 movement points, so I was imagining fast-moving 'skirmish' armies would have archers, irregulars, or mounted units, and be effective against weak positions and levies, but vulnerable to other cavalry or defensive positions.

Whew, that's a lot of units.

Bats? Huh.

I assume they are all from various source books. Must have had a Bloodskull Bat unit, that - or Leicester Birthright (1) the bloodskull player made up some units, heh.

Maybe a supply train method would wkrk. Striking deep into enemy teritory is god but if youre cut off you take penalties or something like that. So makes deep strikes a very risky manouver with high pay off for catching people off gaurd

Bats come from the Brecht book I think, they are the unique unit of the Vampire's realm.

They were in a few of the books including the vampires realm and some of the goblin realms if I remember correctly. Without looking it up was one of them urga zai with a bats unit?

I think that works best if each turn includes all four seasons.
We had this in one of the games.

Winter was for diplomacy right?

Yeah, that is correct. Diplomacy and/or 'Main Adventure'

That way going on main adventure didn't really cost you anything.

Yeah, which encouraged going.

Debating going back to that kind of model, and boosting turns to multiple years, so getting older is even more pronounced. Poor Goblins/Gnolls!

having winter as a full year turn, with dramatic penalties on actions and income is also a nice "slow things down" mechanism.
