In that case, why have any other defensive spells other than Dispel Realm Magic? As Dispel covers all of it...

Dispel Realm Magic is used to dispel other realm magic. Even the wizard's protective variant of it can't stop armies, even summoned ones, that arrive from outside the province. The realm spells with 'Ward' in their names do that.

But it still blocks all the other magic, which is what I'm saying. So there is no other reason to have any other defensive magic against spells. Because, as you pointed out, it's all covered by dispel.

'IF' summoned and raised units can be dispelled by a simple dispel magic, great. Usually has not been able to do that (and in campaigns dispel magic does not dispel undead).

That was my understanding too. Hence the Banish, which would get rid of summoned units.

Mostly true. Protect Source is still useful because its duration is permanent, though it's a very niche thing (it hasn't come up once in the last two games). Ditto for Ley Line Trap and Ley Ward, they haven't been used at all. Protection from Realm Magic's advantage over Dispel Realm Magic is that it works on multiple provinces, plus the priest version doesn't allow the warding variant of DRM anyway.

Mostly true...in your opinion. Not necessarily that of others. A greater potency spell, aimed to protect from a specific threat, can be more effective against that threat.

When a Legion of Dead or a Summoning spell ends (for whatever reason), the undead or monsters are not destroyed. They just lose cohesion and stop following commands. This is part of why 'good' regents don't use these spells--because as soon as the spell is over, there's uncontrolled rampaging monsters in whatever province the army disbanded in.

Which goes back to a need for a spell to banish/dispel such nasties before they become uncontrolled (or even while uncontrolled).

They were brought in by magic, they should be able to be sent away by magic.

Anyways, I'm not a caster this game, but whoever ends up near me -- I will pay for the banish spell research :)
