Why have MT dwarves and dwarves?

There's hammers and crossbows for that... or they can hire mercenaries if they're afraid of a few horses. It's hard to be good at something if it rarely comes up, and it's a downer for specialists if everyone has them, too.
I don't think elves having any kind of heavy or defensive formation units make sense, either. They don't have the numbers or the temperament for that kind of fighting, plus their racial advantages hinge on mobility and ranged attacks. (There's still room for Sidhelien medium infantry/guards, though.)
DC 1 adventures take special skills and are potentially dangerous, so I can see that potentially having a morale effect on a small battle with a few hundred men, at least.

Because Dwarves get +1 melee in the mountains, and that is the ... only way, at least that I know how, to add that effect.

That works if you think of it as the regent's bodyguard too. Would be interesting if you stripped the starting unit from us all.

Yeah, I don't mind "removing" some options for some races. Dwarf/Orogs have no mounted. Sidhe having no Elite Infantry replacement instead their med inf is the "Guard" unit works too.

Yeah, that's a good way of looking at it. It is the adventurers and their personal guard.

Another idea is to give you an EPL bonus = your court. A level 10 court led by a level 9 fighter with 3 level 9 lieutenants should be better then a level 2 court led by the same 4 people.
EPL18(assuming 3 NWPs and no magic) is an easy DC3, even with 6's, EPL28 is an easy DC6, even with 6's.
Or a special building that gives +2EPL for war adventures per level.

No. Terrain mods are not handled well. I probably need to add
"No Charge" versions of mounted units to account for no charge, and we will modify terrains to something other than bonuses.
