Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
Re: Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
It gives you, if you have the spell, the functional effect of the druid/ranger animal companion from 2e... basically, yes.

Clay has both. I added the animal choice for affinity to the end of my T3 post. My understanding is the affinity gives you a +2 bonus against one type adventure based on the choice of animal. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
At major it also gives you a Warrior Virtual Lieutenant for random adventures
Re: Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
Correct on both. It gives +2 to a type at minor, and counts as a virtual LT at major (Warrior type of your level). This virtual LT does not drain the XP gained, but counts as a warrior and takes hits.
Re: Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
To circle back to this:
The rule will be:
Random Events:
Animal Affinity ONLY counts (not Animal Friendship)
Main Adventures:
Each PC can bring 1 animal. NB: you cannot have more than 8 people/creatures in your party (excluding temporarily via summon monster, charm, dominate or control undead type spells). You cannot replace a killed Animal Affinity/friendship mid adventure.
I won't count familiars towards this total, unless the familiar is actually doing something. A pocket-frog familiar doesn't count. An Imp-with-a-wand familiar absolutely counts towards the limit, and towards each PC's 1 'animal' limit.

Re: Animal Affinity, Animal Friendship
Out of curiosity's sake, do you scale the threat to the size of the party above the baseline that you expect, or is the only real drawback to hitting 8 people/creatures that you have more people to share the EXPs/treasures with?

The drawback to more people is less XP/GB/RP/Treasure per person...
It is basically the same adventure, regardless.
