Re: Likely World Area
I liked that resources made guilders important, and the struggle for resources slowed down some peoples' development. Guilders generate gold, yes, but without the resource strain there's not a strict need to have a guilder run your trade for you (other than action economy). Cathedrals and training ground exclusivity will help to make landed temples less attractive.

As a guilder, I didn't find managing resources a particularly fun and compelling part of the game. I think the other holding types just make too much money, and that's why guilds aren't the economic powerhouse they ought to be.

Re: Likely World Area
As a non-guilder with guild holdings, my biggest regret was not having a guilder. My realm was handicapped because I wouldn't trust my "allies" to handle my trade and because I wanted guild revenue(ranger, 1/2 RP from guild). My army and training were behind daene and gaelin because I had no chained trade.

Re: Likely World Area
I tried to find a guilder, didnt, made lvl 1 guilds myself, was handicapped, then sold the holdings to bors and started catching up abit but.. well, would have needed more time to really become strong. Except realmspellwise.

Gaelin might have been defeated in the war early on if he hadn't been the only one involved who had iron. Wzebora likely would have been massively more successful if it hadn't taken more than a dozen turns for her to be able to build anything. It's funny that stone was a bigger source of conflict than shrines were, especially since it all had to come from the human regents.

I think what every non-guilder is saying is that we found guilders very important, and we're surprised a guilder thought their role was limited.

In our alliance though 3 of us were guilders so we found it constraining by not being in demand. We had tons of guilding supply if someone cared to accept.

Guilds and temples make the same amount of money... which is a lot. But guilds can also be used to create trade routes, which produce more income than anything else. This makes it a big problem if roads require resources to build, since it means a realm that doesn't have stone or wood will be delayed from trading for so long they might never catch up.

Re: Likely World Area
I think the biggest reason I dislike resources is because if a guilder has a trade route in someone else's land, it normally just gives them income. So it's easy for the province ruler to threaten to destroy the trade route. But if the route supplies resources, ...oops.
